Rapper DMX, who rose to fame in the late 1990s with his debut studio album “It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot,” died on Friday at the age of 50 after a week on life support following a heart attack, according to his family. Earl Simmons, the rapper, was hospitalized in New York last week with a heart attack after a reported overdose. His situation was so serious upon admission that he was resuscitated and placed on life support, according to Sputnik.
According to Sputnik, the family said in a statement, “We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50 years old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days.”
The rapper’s family has requested that their privacy be respected and has stated that further details about the rapper’s memorial service will be released later.
