Oscar winner Barry Jenkins’ new fight-for-freedom web series has all the makings of an inspiring survival story

Amazon Prime Video introduced the official trailer and main artwork for the highly awaited Amazon Authentic limited series The Underground Railroad, directed by Academy Award-winner Barry Jenkins, which will premiere in its entirety on Prime Video on May 14th.

The ten-episode special series is based on Colson Whitehead’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. Cora Randall’s (newcomer Thuso Mbedu) determined bid for independence in the antebellum South is cataloged in The Underground Railroad. After leaving a Georgia plantation in search of the rumored Underground Railroad, Cora discovers a real railroad, complete with engineers and conductors, as well as a secret network of tracks and tunnels underneath the Southern soil. Ridgeway (Joel Edgerton), a bounty hunter focused on taking Cora back to the plantation she fled, follows her on her journey. Cora struggles to appreciate a life she never thought was possible as she moves from state to state, dealing with the legacy of the mother who left her behind. From the looks of it, this fight-for-survival web series, focused on America’s darkest chapter of racial history, promises to be a soul-stirring survival tale.

Thuso Mbedu, Chase W. Dillon, and Joel Edgerton star in The Underground Railroad. The solid is filled out along with Aaron Pierre, William Jackson Harper, Sheila Atim, Amber Grey, Peter De Jersey, Chukwudi Iwuji, Damon Herriman, Lily Rabe, Irone Singleton, Mychal-Bella Bowman, Marcus “MJ” Gladney, Jr., Will Poulter, and Peter Mullan.

All ten episodes of the restricted series are directed by Barry Jenkins, who also serves as showrunner. Adele Romanski, Mark Ceryak, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Brad Pitt, Richard Heus, Jacqueline Hoyt, and Colson Whitehead are among the government producers. The Underground Railroad is a collaboration between Amazon Studios and Plan B, Pastel, and Huge Indie.
