Randeep Hooda Removed as Ambassador of UN Treaty after his Insensible Joke on Mayawati
After a controversy over actor Randeep Hooda’s insulting statements against Bahujan Samaj Party head Mayawati, actor Randeep Hooda has been withdrawn as the ambassador of the Convention for the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS), the United Nation’s environmental treaty.
Randeep Hooda is now under criticism when a 9-year-old video of him making a joke went viral online on Wednesday, making social media users to call it casteist and sexist. When a Twitter user published a 43-second clip from a 2012 event organized by a media company, it resurfaced. Mr. Hooda is seen in the video making a joke and then laughing with the audience.
At the starting of the video, he has been seen saying that he thinks that he’ll make a dirty joke and then continues to make Mayawati the joke.
Randeep Hooda is Removed as Ambassador of UN Treaty
CMS said in a statement on its website that it finds the statements in the video disturbing and that Randeep Hooda will no longer be seen as their ambassador. The CMS Secretariat considers the statements made in the video unpleasant, and they do not represent the CMS Secretariat’s or the United Nation’s values, according to the statement.
In February 2020, Randeep Hooda was selected as the CMS Ambassador for Migratory Species for a three-year term.
While CMS is a United Nations treaty, the statement underlined that it is different from both the UN Secretariat and the UN Environment Programme, and Hooda’s role as an ambassador was confined to CMS.
